On November 23-24, a training on "Counseling and testing for HIV with the use of rapid multitests in the Armed Forces of Ukraine" for teachers and cadets of the National Military Medical Academy took place on the territory of the hotel complex "Pushcha-Lisova".
The event was organized by the NGO "Institute of HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis" within the program "HIV Prevention in the Armed Forces of Ukraine: testing and counseling, reducing the risk of infection on the battlefield" with the technical support of PEPFAR.
The purpose of the training, which was attended by more than 15 people, was to determine the level of knowledge of servicemen on counseling and testing for HIV, as well as to improve the skills of counseling and testing through practical training.
During the event, participants listened to theoretical lectures on "Epidemiology of HIV", "Ways of HIV transmission" and "Stigma and discrimination", and after the theoretical part there was a practical development and consolidation of information, including testing with rapid multitests and pre- and post-test counseling on HIV infection.
In addition, during the training process, the participants received comprehensive information on the legal framework in the field of HIV prevention, in particular, regulations of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on counseling and testing.
