The leadership of the NGO "IHATI" was awarded the honors of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate

Recently, Eliot Yakobz Pearlman, Colonel of Medical Service of the US Army, chief of the International HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis Institute, was awarded with the Medal "For Sacrifice and Love for Ukraine".

The Medal for an active civic position and volunteer support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, volunteer battalions and other military formations of Ukraine was personally handed by the Chapel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - Bishop Ioann.

Stop AIDS together!

The training wich named "Improvement of the system of voluntary testing on HIV/AIDS in the Armed Forces of Ukraine" for students of the Ukrainian Military Medical Academy (groups of physicians-physicians and epidemiologists) was held on the 7th and 8th of June.

This training was organized thanks to the financial support of the International Public Organization "International Institute for HIV / AIDS and Tuberculosis" within the through the partnership with "DHAPP PEPFAR" project.

The main idea of the training was: to update the knowledge base about HIV/AIDS, in particular to understand the rapport between the way of life and the risk of infection, and to contribute to the understanding that AIDS is a problem for everyone. Training have to inform students about basic safety rules and ways to prevent HIV infection, as well as rapid methods for laboratory diagnosis of this disease. In addition, students were given the opportunity to try testing system by their own.

The knowledge and practical skills gained during the training will be useful to future military physicians during their day-to-day activities.

IPO "IHATI" provided 60,000 test-cards to the Armed Forces of Ukraine

For the last six months the Armed forces of Ukraine got 60,000 (sixty thousand) tests (test-card) for to identify antibodies to HIV ½.

The tests were acquire thanks to International Public Organization "International Institute for HIV / AIDS and Tuberculosis" supported by the DHAPP PEPFAR project (US President's Emergency Plan for HIV / AIDS), in which the United States Government has allocated funds to The fight against HIV / AIDS.

25 health facilities of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and 12 medical units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine received tests according to information received from the management of the Central Sanitary and Epidemiological Department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Testing for HIV infection with rapid tests in the Armed Forces of Ukraine can be held only after obtaining consent from a serviceman.  Moreover the person who will be tested have to be acquainted with the Procedure of voluntary counseling and testing (protocol) for HIV infection approved by the Order of the Ministry of Health Of Ukraine № 415 from 19 of August 2005 registered with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on 22 of November, 2005 (№ 1404/11684).

The third stage of sending tests to the military units of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Armed Forces of Ukraine began

 

A sending of 25,000 units of rapid tests for health facilities to the military units of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Armed Forces of Ukraine must take place by the end of this month. Project became possible thanks to the financial support of "DHAPP PEPFAR" and cooperation between International NGO "International Institute of HIV / AIDS and Tuberculosis" and Central Sanitary and Epidemiological Department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Reference: by the heads of the medical departments (pharmacies) have already received 20,000 tests. To the ATO zone (59 mobile military hospital - 3000, 61 mobile military hospital - 3000, 66 mobile military hospital - 3000), to the Military Medical Clinical Center of the Central region  (Vinnitsa, Khmelnytsky, Starokonstantinov) - 1000 units, Military hospital in the Zhytomyr city - 1000 units, Military hospital in the Bila Tserkva city - 3000 units, to the Military Medical Clinical Center of the Southern region (Odessa, Mykolaiv, Zaporozhye, Cherkasske) - 4000 units, Military hospital in the Dnipro city - 2000 units.

Testing in the Armed Forces of Ukraine on HIV infection with using rapid tests is carried out after obtaining consent from a serviceman after conducting pre-test counseling in according to the “Procedure for voluntary counseling and testing for HIV infection (protocol)” approved by the order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine on the 19th of August in 2005, №415, registered with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on the 22d of November №1404/11684.
